The brief for this project was to reimagine a clinical and dated bathroom into a calm and cocooning space. The original bathroom lacked personality. Glossy finishes, cold tones, harsh lighting and standard fixtures made the room feel impersonal and uninviting. Limited space and awkward angles added to the challenge.
Transforming this large, characterless bedroom and adjoining ensuite, was all about maximising the amazing natural light available, along with some beautiful period features, particularly the ceiling. The redesign focused on using the space thoughtfully to create cosiness whilst retaining a feel of airiness and combining the old and new to give the room a serene ambience and timeless elegance.
This room wasn’t being used very often. Despite having what would be viewed by many as desirable attributes – plenty of space and natural light, a high ceiling and period features – it didn’t feel inviting. The brief was to reimagine the space as a welcoming family snug. Somewhere that encouraged relaxation and connection, whilst still celebrating the room’s generous proportions.
This kitchen/dining space started life as two rooms, a small galley kitchen that felt closed in and uninspiring and a larger, dated dining area. Both lacked character and neither was working optimally, yet between them they had all the right ingredients – generous natural light, elegant proportions, and charming period details. The brief was to create a warm and welcoming space that still felt light and airy, balancing practicality with personality to become the heart of the home.
