Bringing our guiding principles to life

The rewards of a curated environment

When we stumbled across an old French armoire we knew it was the answer to a bookshelf conundrum. The lounge had Victorian proportions and lots of lovely period features and instantly we could see the armoire would work perfectly with both. However, there were two recesses to fill and only one armoire. What to do? The answer….wait! And that’s what we did. A whole 18 months in fact. But the end result more than made up for the hours of research and the significant patience required.

Waiting so long to find an almost, but not entirely, identical armoire was absolutely worth it (by the way not completely matching can be a good thing). As well as being both attractive and functional, the armoires are a talking point, with the story behind them only adding to their charm. Putting in the extra effort to find exactly the right thing, has brought continued joy and immense satisfaction.

Practical meets beautiful

For some time there was an old, and frankly, unstable coat stand in the hallway. Bought at a village fair it was appealing, largely because of its imperfections! As it began to groan ever louder under the weight of many coats and jackets, a more robust and practical solution was clearly needed. Ideally, something wall mounted to free up floor space and sturdy enough to deal with a growing collection of wet weather gear. Old scaffold boards have always been a favourite and we knew they offered the perfect solution.

What surprised us was just how much more than a coat rack the final result ended up being. It has brought a characterful focal point to the hallway and is another great example of beauty and function coming together in the perfect partnership.

Thinking inside the box

Being tidy and organised helps create a calm environment, but sometimes that’s easier said than done, especially if you’re short on storage space. It isn’t always possible to hide everything away. That’s when thinking a little differently can come into its own. Take this renovated and repurposed champagne crate which has taken bottle storage to a new level.

It takes a little imagination to spot the potential in something that hasn’t necessarily been created for the purpose you have in mind. However, combine imagination with a bit of tender, loving care and suddenly you have something useful that you’re happy to have on show.
